About Sumanth D.. Prabhu, MD

Dr. Prabhu received a BS degree in Science from Penn State University and his MD degree from Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia. He completed a residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh and a Cardiovascular Disease Fellowship at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio (UTHSCSA). After completing his fellowship, Dr. Prabhu remained on the faculty at UTHSCSA before moving to the University of Louisville. He joined University of Alabama at Birmingham in 2011 as Professor of Medicine and Director of the Division of Cardiovascular Disease. In 2021, he moved to Washington University in St. Louis as the Lewin Distinguished Professor and the Chief of Cardiology.

Dr. Prabhu has published extensively on the mechanisms of ventricular dysfunction, cardiac remodeling and heart failure. Dr. Prabhu serves as an Associate Editor for Circulation Research and is a member of the American Society for Clinical Investigation.

Dr. Prabhu has been a member of the Southern Society for Clinical Investigation since 2009, has served as Councilor, President-Elect, and President (2021-2022). He is also a member of the Publications and Mentoring Committees.
