About FAMe
A recent survey of the SSCI membership conducted to determine the SSCI's capacity for philanthropy, members were asked to identify the aspect of membership that meant the most to them. The answers came in different words and turns of phrase but unanimously cited SSCI's unique ability to nurture the career development of gifted young physician-scientists and clinician educators as its most significant commitment and accomplishment.
Thus, the Fund for Academic Medicine was established, and we ask that you consider becoming a friend to the Fund. You can become a friend by pledging $1,000 per year for 3 years. Please review the pledge sheet which explains giving options. With traditional corporate support diminishing annually and the overall diminution of federal and other monies previously targeted to support medical research, SSCI feels a unique responsibility to respond by attempting to grow charitable support from our membership and from other gifts from individuals. We would be profoundly grateful for your participation in this effort.
These funds will be allotted to ensure the availability of travel awards that make participation in our key annual meeting possible for so many trainees and junior faculty. It is our hope that we can increase both support for career development and awareness and identification of SSCI as an organization that plays an integral role in the creation of the next generation of highly trained and credentialed physician-scientists.
Like many, you constantly have to juggle the priorities of personal philanthropy. Choosing SSCI is an easy choice, though, its mission and impact essential to a cause near to our hearts. Please don't hesitate to contact Joan Kemp, Executive Director, with any questions. We look forward to hearing from you, and to moving our Society's mission forward through this important opportunity.
