About Gailen D. Marshall, Jr., MD, PhD
Gailen D. Marshall, Jr. MD, PhD, FACP is the Chair of Allergy and Immunology, Professor of Medicine and Pediatrics, Vice Chair for Research, Director of the Division of Clinical Immunology and Allergy and Chief, Laboratory of Behavioral Immunology Research at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. He received both his PhD in Immunology and MD from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, began internal medicine training at the University of Iowa and completed his residency, chief residency and Allergy-Immunology fellowship at the University of Tennessee at Memphis.
His clinical interests include developing integrative approaches for the care of patients with inflammatory diseases such as allergy/asthma, cancer, cardiovascular diseases and diabetes. His major research interests are focused on the effects of psychological stress and environmental factors on immune responses involved in inflammatory diseases and defining immune and genetic biomarkers with potential to identify individual stress susceptibility in healthy individuals and patients.
He has published over 200 peer reviewed articles, reviews, editorials and book chapters. He is an active speaker in regional, national and international venues. He has extensive editorial involvement with multiple journals around the world and currently serves as Editor-in-chief of the Annals of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology.
Dr. Marshall has been a member of the Southern Society for Clinical Investigation since 2005 and presently serves as Secretary-Treasurer. He is also member of the Finance, Membership and Southern Regional Meeting Program Committees.
