About Errol D. Crook, MD
Errol D. Crook, M.D. is currently Abraham A. Mitchell Professor and Chair, Department of Internal Medicine, and Director, Center for Healthy Communities, University of South Alabama College of Medicine in Mobile, AL. Dr. Crook received his BA from Yale College and his MD from the Columbia College of Physician and Surgeons in New York. He trained in internal medicine and nephrology at the University of Alabama - Birmingham Hospitals. After completing his training he joined the faculty of the University of Mississippi Medical Center. Prior to moving to Mobile in June 2005, Dr. Crook was on faculty at Wayne State University School of Medicine / Detroit Medical Center in Detroit, MI. He served as served as Chief of Medicine at Harper University Hospital from 2001 to 2005 and as Acting Chair of the Department of Internal Medicine from March 2004 to June 2005.
Dr. Crook's research focus has been in health disparities with a focus on diabetes, diabetic renal disease, hypertension and cardiovascular disease. He serves as Director of the University of South Alabama Center for Healthy Communities and PI of their National Center of Excellence Grant from the NIH's National Center for Minority Health and Health Disparities. Dr. Crook is Past-President of the American Federation for Medical Research and a past member of the SSCI Council.
