About Vecihi Batuman, MD
Dr. Vecihi Batuman is the Chief of Nephrology at the New Orleans VA Medical Center, and the Dr. A. Rudolph and Ruth Ryder Huberwald Professor of Medicine at Tulane University Medical School, Department of Medicine-Section of Nephrology. Dr. Batuman is board-certified in Internal Medicine and Nephrology, certified as Hypertension Specialist by the American Society of Hypertension, and a Fellow of the American Society of Nephrology.
Dr. Batuman has joined the Tulane Faculty in 1991, has served as the Chief, Section of Nephrology at Tulane (2005 -2007), and as the Chief of Medicine Service at the New Orleans VA Medical Center (2007-2013). Dr. Batuman has been been named in the Best Doctors in America (2002-2015). He is the Chief Editor for the Nephrology Section of Medscape, and the 2013-15 President of the American Society of Hypertension - Gulf Central Chapter.
His research interests include mechanisms of acute and chronic kidney disease, endocytosis and toxicity of myeloma proteins in the kidney, environmental kidney disease, Balkan endemic nephropathy, and hypertension. He has more than 100 peer-reviewed publications in medical journals on kidney diseases and hypertension.
Dr. Batuman has been a member of the Southern Society for Clinical Investigation since 1994. He presently serves on Council and is a member of the Membership and Publications Committees.
