About Michael Baram, MD

One of my greatest professional rewards has been seeing the improvement in the delivery of Critical Care. My career has revolved on applying evidence based medicine to the bedside. Over the years, I have been involved in many projects that relate to Pulmonary and Critical Care- topics such as: aggressive sepsis management, utilization of ECMO for advanced life support, addressing delirium in the ICU, and setting up a post ICU clinic. Making the system flex to accommodate the most current literature is a constant process. Not only does changing the processes include making system changes, but it also includes educating residents, fellows, faculty and the entire team. The most rewarding part of this teaching is that it goes beyond knowledge we share. The constant questions of “why?”, “how?,” and “really?” has led the way for other new ideas. Much of our research began as quality improvement (QI.) In the ICU, it is important to asses if our system changes have created the expected results. Joining Southern Society for Clinical Investigators would offer me an opportunity to hear what other programs are dong from research and education advancements. Being able to cooperate with programs outside of Philadelphia would provide me a unique opportunity to be part of growing projects and ideas.
