About Michael E. Ullian, MD
Michael E. Ullian MD received an AB in Biology from Harvard College in 1977 and an MD from New York University School of Medicine in 1981. Following house staff training in Internal Medicine at Bellevue Hospital/New York University Hospital (1981 - 1985), renal fellowship training took place at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center under the aegis of Drs. Robert W. Schrier and Stuart L. Linas (1985 – 1989). Dr. Ullian was an Instructor in Medicine at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center in 1989 and then moved to the Division of Nephrology at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, where he rose through the ranks to his current position of Professor of Medicine with tenure. His major roles in the division are Director of Nephrology at the Ralph H Johnson Charleston VA Hospital, medical director of the Home Dialysis program, and coordinator of divisional conferences and continuing medical education. Dr. Ullian has been selected as a fellow of the High Blood Pressure Council of the American Heart Association.
His clinical interests include hypertension and peritoneal dialysis, and his research interests include angiotensin II signaling in general and the role of angiotensin II in peritoneal membrane fibrosis in particular.
Dr. Ullian has been a member of the SSCI since 2006 and presently serves Assistant Editor of The American Journal of the Medical Sciences.
