The SSCI co-sponsors the annual Southern Regional Meeting along with the SAFMR, SSPR, SSGIM and APA. In 2007, the North American Chapter of the International Academy for Cardiovascular Sciences joined the Southern Regional Meeting.
The meeting is held annually at the Inter-Continental Hotel in downtown New Orleans, and is only a few blocks from the French Quarter. What a great way to escape the February doldrums than to spend a weekend in New Orleans!
The 67th annual Southern Regional Meeting, held February 17 - 19, 2011, had over 700 attendees, including medical students, residents, fellows, and academic faculty in pediatrics, general internal medicine, and all medicine subspecialties. This number does not include those attendees from the SSGIM portion of the meeting.
The 3-day meeting included workshops, symposia, a joint-council mentored poster session and reception, oral abstract sessions, state-of-the-art lectures, awards ceremonies, business meetings and social events including a student/trainee reception, SSCI New Member reception, subspecialty dinner-symposia with the conclusion of its annual, and very anticipated, Jazz Luncheon
